UNIT 4
DRAFT OF THE PROJECT PROPOSAL
Project Title: Fantasy
Project Review (approx. 150 words)
This provides an opportunity for you to reflect on, review and summarise your progress and achievements through the first two units of the program, expressed in terms of the knowledge, skills and understanding acquired. What you now know, and what it means to you, compared with what you knew and could do before you started the course. It also provides an opportunity for you to explain your reasons for choosing a particular pathway and to outline your longer-term aspirations. You should reflect upon how your choice of a particular pathway has informed your project proposal, how it is situated within a broader context and what immediate aspirations will be satisfied through the Project Realisation.
I like to explore and create. So, naturally, my goal is to combine my two passions in my creative process. However, I was shocked by the level of integration between Research and Studio required in my daily work. I think that only after a long period of exploration, experimentation and reflection can my work be at its best. I think both research and studio as tools that can be used simultaneously. Rather than confining myself to a specific process, I am free to create my own work and to produce better results. However, in the past few weeks, my exploration and creation process has become more systematic and meaningful. The interaction between my daily studio and research practice has become very intertwined, and it has led to more meaningful ideas and products. In the future, I plan to continue to develop innovative projects that can not only push the boundaries, but also learn from past experience. Looking forward, I want to study innovative and non-binary materials and processes. I believe that ambiguity and fluidity could become part of the next transformative space or innovative design approach.
Project Concept & Description (approx. 250 words)
This provides an opportunity for you to clearly explain the concept and aims of your project; what you will be researching, what problems are you seeking to resolve, what types of practical methods and skills you are seeking to develop and what technical resources you may need and an indication of the form in which you will present your project realisation.
You should recognise that throughout the project realisation you may, in response to the evolution of your ideas and or the availability of facilities and materials, make decisions, which result in changes to the project concept and aims. It is important that any process of change is documented in both the work itself and through supporting records, e.g. a personal reflective journal.

Project Evaluation (approx. 100 words)
This provides an opportunity for you to explain the means by which you will reflect on, and evaluate, your work, as both a continuous activity and in summation at the conclusion of the project. The critical review should be referenced to the projects stated aims and be reflective and analytical of learning and achievement rather than a narrative of actions completed. This section should describe the different ways in which you will evaluate your work during the project and at the end.

Feb 24th Journal
The class of today is the first day of unit 4. I finish the draft proposal and all the connect references of my project. I start to get a plan for this week for myself, such as the stuff of the self-management. Throughout my reference, I would like to start to research for each area deeply. Therefore today's plan is thinking about the user and the material.
My theme relates to the implementation problem in our life. I would attempt to counter this belief by providing mothers with a place of fantasy and escape, foster an environment where the mothers can continue to live the life of a girl. Therefore, the end-user will be the children (0-5) which is the main user of the project. The project will consider children’s comfort and enjoyment (playgrounds etc.).And also the young mothers who are the main user of the project. The project will focus on providing them with a low-stress retreat where she can reconnect with her personal life. By another side, which is the young mothers’ partner giving the parents a space to spend time with each other, while having their kids meters away. Again focusing on the mother’s personal life and her connection with the world. Others are people who are interested in experiencing their potential parenting lives.
For the material and methods, I would like to use these materials, such as wood, comfortable fabric, rubber paddings, safety nets and grass, lawn and vegetations. Children need a safe space to play and the mother needs the quiet and space either. Both of them needs safety, therefore all the material need soft and comforts.
Feb 25th Journal
After yesterday, finish the target audience and the method of the material. Today, I would like to explore both of the articles and political context together. From my own perspective, there is a deep connection between the article and political.
The article context is mainly about the current realities of young mothers or women’s lives. The contexts focus on the gap between a growing force of independent, forward thinking women, and the society’s growing focus on the well beings of the children. On one hand, As more mothers with young children have paid jobs, proportion of women who never have children, however, has doubled in a generation; On the other hand, from the £13m revamp that London's Museum of Childhood got and the innovating case of Evelina Children's Hospital, the importance of children’s well being to our current society can be seen.
The political contexts concern with the individual perspectives of elements that interact and composite my project. starting from perspectives of people such as children and young women, the scope of my study not only studies the human aspect of the project but also the architectural reaction made by the architectural elements. Studying the occupants’ role as a force of space-shaping, I investigate the relationship between the built and the flow.

pathway context(choose 2 project to summarize )
First of all, by shunning traditional classrooms, instead creating 'learning studios', Roar's design for the nursery school responds to a brief calling for a world-class learning experience that instils the habits of innovation and futurism that will stay with children for life. As the designer explained in this article. "These spaces are flexible, adaptable and nimble, to accommodate different teaching and learning styles.""It was imperative that the structure be transformed into a third, 'silent' educator, that also facilitates bonding, learning and self-discovery."This approach is intended to ensure the children and staff are the main sources of stimulation within the nursery.I like how is the designer use the soft curves to creative this space And also I learn for the how to let all elements of a school's environment – physical and human, interior and exterior – impact its educational framework.
As I know of the NUBO – as its meaning cloud suggests – is hard to pin down with its unlimited potential as a stimulating and inclusive play centre to encourage learning, exploration, boundless imagination. Its core spaces satiate kids’ curiosity and emphasize the concept of ‘Pure Play’, which means something for everyone in this well-designed space to enjoy. The overall design takes a minimalist approach to remove unnecessary furniture and equipment - with just enough to invent their own games. Equally important is to invite parents to spend quality family time together – and with plenty of interactions, too. Adults are also invited to relax and even learn alongside their kids with child-like curiosity.
Imaginative and creative play is important for children’s cognitive development. I would like to create the space as NUBO does, use manipulating materials, experimenting with ideas, testing their abilities, contemplating different resolutions and trying different roles, children can develop critical thinking skills and problem-solving abilities. Imagination and creativity are also important for good architecture and design. Nubo is a new indoor playground style of the design where children are encouraged to “exercise [their] imagination,” and it required the design team to exercise their imagination to create a space that would stimulate children’s creativity and resourcefulness.
By learning both of the creative and meaning for design, I realize that create a space not only for children to play and also is help children to learn at these flexible, adaptable and nimble space to accommodate different teaching and learning styles. I like the new indoor playground style of the design where children are encouraged to “exercise [their] imagination,” and it required the design team to exercise their imagination to create a space that would stimulate children’s creativity and resourcefulness.

pathway context ( choose 2 project to summarize)
JARAMTEO KINDERGARTEN, a district kindergarten of Gwangjin-Gu is sited at a typical residential area where multi-household houses cluster in Junggok-dong. Due to narrowness of the site, facing little to the road and closely surrounded by buildings, JARAMTEO KINDERGARTEN was designed to stand out symbolically as a kindergarten, while blending in with the neighborhood. Restrictions such as, confined site area, accommodation requirement and barrier-free certification derived plans and sections. So the focus of design was on shapes of openings that determinethe image of an elevation.

Project Concept & Description (approx. 250 words)
Everyone needs a bit of fantasy in their life. There is a social tendency in our time that assumes childbirth as an abrupt end to the life of a girl with fantasies as she becomes a mother. Through my design, I would attempt to counter this belief by providing mothers a place of fantasy and escape, foster an environment where the mothers can continue to live the life of a girl. The aim of this proposal is to provide an low-stress environment for both mothers and their young children by synthesizing a restaurant for the adults and a playground for the kids into one interconnected space of fantasy for both generations.
The proposed structure is made up with two interconnected stacks of occupiable booths, one of which is for the adults, and the other is the playground for the kids. The towers are mainly constructed with two parts. The first part is the cells. Through extruding basic simple gable and arch geometries and further manipulating their dimensions, I attempt to create multipurpose spaces that can satisfy the needs of both the restaurant and the playground. The second part is the supporting structure that at times will also serve as connections between the booths by using scaffolding like structures, I lift up the cells into the sky and promote movements in all directions. The movements will be enabled by a series of ramps that run through the cells and the scaffoldings, providing circulations and visual cues. (245 words)
Project Evaluation (approx. 100 words)
In the future, I would like to try to explore more about the understanding of the site & place. During the Independence Week, I complete the research and start thinking about how to connect the two different spaces that could enable the adult and children see each other.
Throughout testing the materiality of my idea, I will experiment further with less familiar materials to broaden the understanding of materials, and how the process of the model intensifies the final outcome. Last but not least, I will show what I am learning from the experimentation and write down the reflection regularly. (100 words)

SKETCH
BUILDUP OF IDEA THROUGH ORTHOGRAPHIC TO PERSPECTIVE
Working from a rough orthographic up to a more resolved perspective and the idea quickly. The aim is to explore ideas and transfer these from orthographic to perspective to discover more about the design. Combining multiple perspectives, orthographic and other projections to catalyze thumbnail sketches. Drawing not only the formal but the choreography/ dynamics and the invisible.
Starting with 3 basic shapes building up into more detailed objects.
Transfer of shapes from orthographic into perspective, while building up the concept of the objects and inserting possible contexts.
Taking the original shape and creating a basic perspective construct that can be drawn over.
Working up the idea within the specific perspective view. How people move through space, potential alternative programs, etc.

WORKING ON WORKFLOW AND SKETCHBOOK
Today I begin to work on laying out some basic ideas on my sketchbook and workflow. Brainstorming from the base point of investigation, contemporary women’s view on having children. I imagine an architectural intervention that can bring change to many young mother’s current dilemmas relating to identity lost. On my sketchbook, I sketch out representations of concepts like identity and harmony to use as an abstract starting point of my project.

WORKING ON WORKFLOW AND SKETCHBOOK
Today I begin to expend on the abstraction that I have developed yesterday. Starting from a simple base figure, I develop numerous iterations and begin to cross-compare between them. At the end I settled on an very basic concept, I want to create something that at once celebrate the individual identities of the mothers and the children while at the same time tie them together both figuratively and literally.
March 6th -8th
IDEA DEVELOPMENT
Today I begin to envision the overall composition my project will take. Being a combination between a restaurant for the mothers and a playground for the children, I decide to intertwine two towers of different use into one cohesive project, which prioritize identity while also promote interaction.

IDEA DEVELOPMENT
Today I begin to contemplate on the detail componuntents of my project. In my yesterday’s endeavor, I have determined that I want to construct my model in a stacking method. Therefore, today I envison basic modules as stacked components of the whole. Taking inspirations from typical architectural forms like gables and arches, I make abstract extrusions of the forms in an attempt to create enclosures.
March 10th
IDEA DEVELOPMENT
Today I want to work on the supporting elements that tie my project up. I envision a matrix of frame elements that support the overall structure of the stackings. The frames added an additional layer of intrigue and circulation to the project. Within the frames I am able to host serieses of staircases that tie the functions of the spaces together, completing the overall composition.
